Perspective can shift everything.

I was recently pregnant and then had a baby during Covid and boy has this experience been a learning and growing process. As a 38 year old, independent and stubborn woman I struggled with pregnancy. I didn’t struggle physically, it was a real mental and emotional struggle. It was the first time in my life where when I was told I couldn’t do something my reply couldn’t be “really just watch me.” As someone who doesn’t like to be told what to do, pregnancy restrictions and then Covid restrictions almost pushed me over the edge. One morning while talking to my therapist I continued to say I can’t do this or I can’t do that, I want to do x but I can’t and I wish I was doing y etc, etc. My therapist said hold on, you can do anything you want. No one is forcing you to do anything but what do you really want in life? My reply was for my son to be born safe and healthy. He said ok well then you don’t really want to be doing the things you say you want, otherwise you would be doing them. We all have in the moment superficial things we want but do they align with what we really want? You just need to change your perspective because right now you’re doing exactly what you want. What an Aha moment! Right!? The mental restrictions were gone and most importantly I found peace and rediscovered the joy in my very different looking days. Sometimes all we need is a little perspective shift to re-find our joy.
