What does “wellness” mean to you?

When we started talking about Sweat + Soul, we kept mentioning or seeing the word “wellness”.  It seems to be a buzz word and used often in the health and “wellness” space.  However there’s no overall consensus of what wellness means.  What does wellness mean to you?  The definition of wellness is “The state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal.” Good health can mean so many different things. When we thought about wellness or being in the pursuit of “good health” we found the 5 ingredients that to us defined what wellness means.

Our 5 ingredients:

  • Emphasize being healthy from the inside out: It must start with the inside.  It can’t just be about how you look, it has to begin with how do you feel and how will you feel in 5,10, 20 years from now. We need to make sure we focus on how we feel just as much if not more than how we look.

  • Move how you love: Movement has to be fun or you’re never going to do it or stick with it long term.  Find what you love and make it your workout.  Whether it’s dancing, hiking, lifting, rollerskating, etc.  Bring the play and your inner child back into your workouts!

  • Recover as much as you play: Recovery is key! Whether that’s through meditation, massage, taking a nap, reading a book or recharging, make time for recovery by doing whatever YOU love. It’s imperative that you spend as much time on your recovery as you do on training.

  • Fuel yourself with real, whole ingredients: Choosing nutrient dense foods that will keep you satiated and provide the nutrients to make sure you’re giving your body what it needs and wants to thrive. Remember, food is fuel. For information on macronutrients and a few of our favorite recipes, visit www.sweatandsoulcollective.com/freeguide to download our FREE Workout + Nutrition Guide.

  • Heal your adrenals and hormones: Very few, if any of our wellness goals can be obtained if our adrenals and hormones are out of whack.  We’ll find it nearly impossible to get more energy, feel good, put on muscle or lose weight if we don’t put them at the forefront of our wellness journey.

We will continue to dive deeper into each of these ingredients of wellness. This is the foundation of SWEAT + SOUL. We will provide helpful tips, explain what things are and why they’re important, share products, recipes or exercises that we love and answer any questions that you may have!
