When you focus on the good…

“I blame 2020.”

“I gained the quarantine 15.”

“I had a bad day that turned to a bad week, so why even try.”

“I want to just get those results and look like her.”

“I’m not making the money I want to or that someone else is making.”

These are statements, excuses, reasons I hear a lot lately. Whether it is the reason someone is joining a program, frustrated with trying to be healthy, reaches out for help, won’t work hard to reach a goal, won’t go after a dream. So often, it is negative thoughts that drive our motivation, that is the motive behind what we do or why we try something.

Now more than ever, it is important we shift the motive to positives. To the good. Mental health right now is more important than ever. So how can we shift our minds to focus on the good, what brings us joy, what we enjoy, what we need for our mental health. Because guess what, if we focus on the good, more good comes. It may not be overnight, but it will be worth the wait and the work. Good things take time.

I challenge you to start your day making one thing that makes you happy a priority. If that is a walk, do that. If that is journaling, do that. If it is having a glass of wine after a busy day, Dang it, drink the glass of wine. Everyday, make joy a priority. Something that makes you feel better, motivated, energized, happy.

Let’s work to change those thoughts, reasons, statements and all increase the good in our lives.

“2020 has been hard and I am grateful for the lessons I have learned.”

“Quarantine brought a lot of stress and I am okay with that and focused on managing stress.”

“Bad days happen. Moments are okay. I acknowledge that and am moving on.”

“I am uniquely and beautifully me and focused on being my best!”

“I am doing things that are impacting lives in a positive way daily.”
